Ben + Brian | W Retreat & Spa | Vieques, PR
We met Ben + Brian on Reddit and honestly we couldn’t be happier that our Reddit habits finally paid off! Ben + Brian are wonderful people and when they asked us to shoot their wedding in Vieques, Puerto Rico, we were beyond excited! We first met the couple in Manhattan where we got to know the couple and talk wedding weekend plans. We then spent the wedding weekend traveling around the island, getting aerial shots and capturing the couple in an organic and beautiful environment.

We love being immersed in different religions and cultural traditions. Learning about traditions is one of our favorites things about making wedding films (besides getting to know really awesome couples). Their wedding in particular, consisted of a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and a Jewish ceremony. One tradition that was new to us is when Ben and Brian broke glass at the end of their ceremony. We learned that the breaking of the glass symbolizes the destruction of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem and couples include this tradition in their wedding ceremony as it symbolizes the absolute finality of the marital covenant. How beautiful is that! We also learned more about the Hora, which is a Jewish circle dance typically danced to the music of Hava Nagila. It consists of dancers holding each other's hands in a circle, spinning usually counterclockwise, as each participant follows a sequence of three steps forward and one step back. Can’t say we’re experts at the Hora yet, but at least we tried!

With a theme of travel and the lush landscape of the Caribbean, there was never a dull moment or opportunity to get amazing footage. From welcome sunset cocktails on the first night of arrival to their first dance to Love by Lana Del Ray, everything was thoughtfully and tastefully planned out and executed, which is no easy task, especially when planning a destination wedding. We’re so happy we got to spend the weekend with this amazing couple and their family who were a blast to hang out with. Congratulations to the wonderful couple and best wishes for a life filled with happiness and love!
